My recovery with Mickel Therapy

Lyn White

ME North East do not recommend treatments for ME, we do share information about available treatment/therapies to enable people to make informed choices. Following the presentation last September by Dr David Mickel we asked members to share with us their experiences and the following is Lyn’s personal journey. We wish to provide a fair and balanced view and should anyone wish to provide their experiences we look forward to hearing from you.

My Recovery with Mickel Therapy – Lyn White

I had ME for three years following a life threatening respiratory infection, although looking back I can see my immune system was in decline even before that. I suffered extreme exhaustion and weakness, muscle ache, sleep disturbance, brain fog, digestive problems and hormonal disruption among others. For months I did what the doctors told me and rested. At 11 months I received the diagnosis of ME and decided to do something about it. I read and searched the internet for things that would help. As a nurse I was looking for things that were based on scientific principle.
I spent thousands of pounds on consultations, tests, supplements and treatments – some of which helped a bit and some that didn’t. I was focused and determined to be well; I always had a plan of what I was going to try next if the current treatment had no effect.

Early in 2005 an aunt in Scotland sent me a couple of newspaper articles on Mickel and Reverse Therapy. I read the websites and the book on Mickel Therapy and was highly sceptical. However, the claimed recovery rate of 86% was astounding and I felt could not be ignored. I decided to give it a go. I had 7 sessions with a therapist locally over the summer of 2005 and my energy levels improved from 5/10 to 8/10 and then reached a plateau. I was very grateful, I could drive, swim and even danced at a friends wedding. I still had to rest and pace. At the beginning of 2006 I decided to try again and went to see Dr David Mickel in Edinburgh. After 3 sessions my energy levels are now normal – hurray! I still have an itchy rash but hope it will settle over time.

Mickel Therapy has cost me £800 (some of the visits were to my own home), this is a fraction of what I spent on other attempts to get well. I consider it money well spent as I am now in a position to go out to work again. I have already started voluntary work with a children’s charity and am going to Edinburgh in May to train as a Mickel Therapist. I have even been for a week skiing in the French Alps (no pacing or ill effects!). My next goal might be (it’s just a might!) the ME North East 10 mile walk round Derwentwater in August.
