Ongoing study to determine the prevalence of Autonomic Dysfunction in patients with CFS/ME -Volunteers needed |
Dr Julia Newton, Dr John Allen and Dr Sam Stevens are continuing with this important research, and still need a number of volunteers to complete their work. They are looking for people aged between 18 and 60 years of age. The requirement is for one visit to either the RVI or the Freeman Hospital. Tests will take approximately one hour and will involve measuring heart rate and blood pressure responses to manoeuvres using new technology. None of the tests are invasive, unpleasant or unsafe. The only restriction is that you do not eat 3 hours prior to the test, and do not smoke or drink coffee or tea with caffeine for 4 hours. The possible benefits of taking part? If the tests find that your autonomic function tests are abnormal then there are interventions that they can perform that may improve them – which may improve your fatigue. In addition should the results lead to treatments in the future these will be made available to you. This study also requires healthy “control” volunteers, someone who does not have CFS/ME, who are not taking any heart, blood pressure medication and beta-blockers. |
