Early Day Motion 260 David Taylor MP

'Lack of Scientific Research in ME'

Calling on the Government to secure funds for the present scientific studies (eg: the work going on in Glasgow University) and to promote other studies into the cause and treatment of ME.Signatures continue to be added to support this early day motion. 226 MP’s have now signed (and including the 21 who have signed the amendment this gives us a total of 247, making a total of 38% of all MP’s.)

I wondered just what happened next in this process and thought I would share my findings with you. “An EDM is a motion put down (“tabled”) by MP’s calling for a debate on a particular subject. In practice there is rarely time to debate EDM’s nowadays and the true modern day purpose is to enable MP’s to draw attention to an issue and to canvas support for their views by inviting other members to add their signatures in support of the motion.”

In this session of Parliament, which started after the General Election of May 2005, a total of 2,230 EDM’s have been tabled. EDM 260 is lying in 27th place at the moment. The “top scorer” to date is a motion on Climate Change and so far 368 MP’s have signed this.
