New Patron for ME North East |
Trai Anfield—Broadcast Meteorologist I first heard of ME North East last November, when I was asked to make a feature for BBC Look North, on how the funding we receive from Children In Need helps young people in the north east. I have a strong personal interest in ME, and was so impressed with the work that Jennifer, Sue, Sheila, Joanna and all the volunteers were doing that I wanted to become more involved. Recently they asked me to become a patron, and I'm more than happy to accept the invitation. As M.E. Awareness Week approaches, I'm also delighted to hear that our funding from Children In Need has been secured for another 3 years. This is the maximum term available, and is a really positive endorsement of our work. Not content with that, though, our fundraising efforts go into overdrive on Sunday 6th May with an abseil off the Tyne Bridge. This is becoming a tradition for the brave amongst us, and we're hoping to top the 7,000 raised last year. You'll notice I say "us", but sadly I'm already booked up that weekend, otherwise I'd be there... quaking! However, I do know some of you who will be there, so good luck to everyone, and especially to Paul Tait. I first met Paul last November, but since then he's been to visit me at the BBC, and done some informal work experience, which hopefully will help in his quest for a job. I'm glad to say that he looks stronger each time I see him, and I wish him well in his recovery. Trai |
