Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP)

'A members experience' - Alison Walton

Remember me? I worked for ME North East as the Young Peoples Coordinator from 2002 to 2004. I also helped to set up and run the Derwentside Local ME Support Group for a number of years. Like many of you, I suffered quite badly from ME leaving me with lots of related problems such as panic attacks, anxiety, fear of the future and frightened to try new things in case of relapse.

But my life over the last 12 months has been dramatically changed around because of one thing – Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP).

So what is NLP?

NLP was initially created in the early 1970s by Richard Bandler and John Grinder. It is a study of human experiences, communication, thinking, language and behaviour. At the heart of NLP is a wide range of methods and models for understanding how people think, behave, learn and change. It offers a flexible approach which brings about positive, fast change in individuals and empowers them to adapt to an ever-shifting world.

After seeing an NLP practitioner and overcoming some of my own fears, I realised how powerful NLP is - so much so I decided I would like to train as an NLP practitioner to help others overcome their problems and fears and create a better life for themselves.

I researched NLP and found that one of the best training events I could attend was run by Richard Bandler (one of the co-creators of NLP), Michael Neill (life coach) and the well-known hypnotist, Paul McKenna.

Having made the decision I travelled to London in April this year for the first of the training courses. I was absolutely terrified as this was such a big step for me to take alone. The train journey itself was very difficult as I was in a constant state of panic and I arrived at the hotel a complete wreck. Over the next five days of training my life started to change dramatically. I realised that a lot of the problems I thought were so huge and insurmountable were, in fact, patterns that I had learned over the years and were all “in my head”.

I came back a changed person and progressed in leaps and bounds over the next 6 months. I returned to London in November for 10 days more training which was so easy and enjoyable compared to my first visit. I am now living a life free from panic, fear and anxiety and plan to start up my own business as a master practitioner in NLP in the New Year. I am excited at the thought of being able to help other people take back control of their lives and benefit from NLP the way I have.

There is a cost involved but if you think you would like to try it, give me a call, I will be happy to speak to you. Please contact me on: 07894 280685.

Don’t be afraid to take that first step – it can change your life. It has mine!
