Body Talk – Reverse Therapy Update by Lyn White |
Have you ever had that sinking feeling or lurching in your stomach when a certain person comes into the room, or you hear their voice on the phone? Perhaps someone in your family or someone you worked with. This is your body telling you something, something to guide you and protect you. Maybe to be careful about how much you tell them, maybe stand up for yourself.
Our bodies ‘talk’ to us all the time and if we repeatedly ignore the signals from our body and listen to our heads telling us ‘not to rock the boat’ or ‘keep a lid on’ how we feel then this can set off an alarm response in the brain. The hypothalamus (part of the brain) then sends a cascade of hormonal and nervous signals to prepare the body for action. Unfortunately, with ME/CFS, the alarm response is stuck in the ‘on’ position and the body's systems are driven to exhaustion, leading to the many and varied distressing symptoms. Reverse Therapy can enable clients to tune in to what their body needs so the alarm response is turned off and the systems can return to normal. Since my last article in Focus I have completed training to work with young people under 16 and have been awarded Full Licence status from Dr John Eaton the founder of Reverse Therapy. My results show that over 20 of my clients have recovered, mainly from ME/CFS, a few with Fybromyalgia, and a couple with anxiety. It is very exciting to see people so disabled become well again. There are a couple of testimonials on my website www.northeast-reverse-therapy.com. If you don't have Internet access give me a call and I will post them out to you. A lady e-mailed me this week to say she had done the Race for Life (5km) in under an hour and she was pretty pleased with herself!. She had ME for 8 years and last year had to use a mobility scooter to get from the car park to the start to wave her family off. I know the scepticism runs high in the ME community as we have all tried lots of things, but there is only one way to find out if this is bunkum or a really great way to get well – and that is to have a go! She went on to train and is now a practising reverse therapist. In an effort to give you information to make your own informed choices we are willing to share a diversity of information with you.
