Band Night!

'A Young Person's review'

by Sarah Ord

The seeds for this venture were sown during July 2004, when my brother Anthony, along with his band, The Reverberations, decided they wanted to raise money for ME. Thankfully they managed to get their act together so the gig could take place on 1st July 2005, at Visions, a pub in Billingham. Torn Amusement, another band from Billingham, offered to play alongside The Reverberations.

Torn Amusement kicked off the night with the cover of “Helena” by My Chemical Romance, they played for a further 30 minutes, playing an array of heavier modern music. The style changed when The Reverberations took the stage and played a range of musical styles varying from the classic pop of The Beatles, 70’s rock with Led Zeppelin, to 90’s Indie rock with Oasis. The few adults who attended were very surprised by the overwhelming response to the more classic covers such as “Octopus Garden” and “The Monster Mash”.

The music then paused for a raffle. We were disappointed with the response from local businesses but were very grateful for the prizes provided by UGC Cinemas, Showcase Cinemas, The Arc, KFC, Tesco and Blackwellss Butchers. Many other prizes were provided by friends and family from both bands, which saved the raffle from being a “FLOP”! Vicky and Peter Wright, members of The Reverberations put their artistic talents to good use by designing and making badges. They sold like hotcakes!!!! Each band then did a second set, which concluded with The Reverberations version of the classic Who song – My Generation.

The evening was a complete success and raised over £700. The predominantly adolescent crowd enjoyed the nights musical entertainment which included covers of famous tracks and songs written by the band themselves.
I am very proud of my brother and his friends for offering their support – it’s so nice to be able to give teenagers some positive press.
