Black Tie Dinner

Christine Frazer raises £400 and

increases awareness

I came up with the idea of a gala dinner. Every one loves dressing up, and I thought if we could have a party and mix it with a talk about ME North East and the young people who have ME, then we might just educate a few more people about the illness… and also raise a bit of money!!

So the planning started I spoke to my friend Tim who runs The White Cross Pub in Lancaster and we sat down with Andy the chef and came up with a very posh menu. (Needless to say it had all my favourite things on… including chocolate mousse, scrumptious!!)

I then rang Joanna at ME North East and asked if she would design the tickets for the event and went around lots of businesses in Lancaster and asked them to donate raffle prizes. We got some amazing things. The Sultan, (a very posh Indian restaurant) gave us dinner for two and Sound Savers, the music shop even gave us an acoustic guitar!!

As the day of the dinner came nearer I started to get nervous, what if no one came, or no one bought any tickets…..I was going to be left with an awful lot of chocolate mousse!

The day arrived and it was gorgeous sunshine. We started on the canal with a champagne reception and canapés. Every one looked stunning. Joanna and I looked like movie stars! Tim even wore his kilt!!

We had a fantastic dinner, and after the dinner Joanna and I talked about ME North East and how important it was that people knew about how much ME can affect the lives of people who are young and old. Then we had the raffle, and Susie Frankland; a singer from Lancaster entertained us. We managed to raise £400 with donations and the raffle, but we also managed to get those grown ups to sit up and pay attention.

The Lancaster Guardian even published a photo of the stunning crowd. I’m a bit worried now in case we get mobbed in the street for our autograph!
My next ME adventure starts on the 18th of September. I’m going to do The Great North Run with my sister Marie Therese and some other friends and family… That reminds me… I’d better get training. Should really stop eating all that chocolate mousse!!
