Music Festival

'A Young Person's review'

by Rachel Byrne

Well, I can honestly say that July 9th was a day I won’t be forgetting in a hurry. As most of you will remember, that was the day of the Music Festival at the Hermitage School in Chester Le Street, and I think everyone who took part will agree that it was a fantastic experience.

There were four of us who performed, all of whom were highly praised by the audience: Rachel, who sang ‘Torn’ by Natalie Imbruglia like a pro; Rebecca, who gave a fantastic performance of ‘Love Is All Around’ by Wet Wet Wet; Rebekah, who did Whitney Houston proud with her rendition of ‘I Wanna Dance’; and myself, who joined Rebekah in our own duet on the Supremes’ ‘Can’t Hurry Love’.

I know we were all at least a tad nervous about performing in the festival, especially with so many other acts taking part, but I have to say, the afternoon certainly did credit to M.E. North East, and it was brilliant to be up there showing people just what we’re capable of. It was great publicity for the group, and it was certainly a fabulous experience being up on stage, even if I was lucky to make it off the stage (my knees decided to turn to jelly mid-performance).

I hope in future there’ll be more chances like this to publicise the group, and even other types of things, so other people can have the chance to join in as well, it was an absolute blast. Of course, in congratulating all those who took part, I can’t possibly leave out Sheila, Joanna and all those parents and friends who helped us all get up the guts to perform, and having so much patience in helping get everything together (especially with the backing track trouble). Well done everyone
